The Color Green

I'm scared of a lot of things.

I'm scared of heights
And roller coasters.

I'm scared of failing,
Of not being enough.

But most of all, I'm scared of giving.

Of giving someone my all.
Letting them in where they don't belong.
Giving a little piece of myself at a time
Until there's nothing left to give.

To show him my body—
The body that I can't love.
So how could he?

I'm scared of losing myself in someone.

And even worse, I know that if it was him,
If he loved me,

I wouldn't be able to stop myself.

From giving all of me—
My body, my soul, my heart.

If he woke up one day and decided he hated the color green,
I would change my favorite color.
I would repaint my walls,
Buy new clothes,
And get rid of everything green I own.

If he told me Boston was too far away,
I'd stay in Georgia.

If he didn't want to see the world,
Neither would I.

If he thought writing was a foolish dream,
I'd put down my pen.

And if he wanted to spend the rest of his life
In Savannah,

I would too.

I'd build my whole life around his
And call it love.

And that terrifies me.

I'm terrified of losing the little part of me I have left.

But for him,

I would.
